Kill Team Faction Tier List: The Current Power Rankings

Competitive Kill Team is shaped by more than raw datasheet strength. Mission actions, deployment zones, terrain layouts, equipment choices, and player experience all influence whether a faction converts its tools into points. A team that dominates open firefights may struggle badly on a dense board, while a model-count-heavy roster can win through objective pressure without eliminating many operatives.

This faction tier list reflects the current tournament environment and the way strong teams perform across a broad range of missions. It is designed as a practical guide for players choosing a new roster, preparing for an event, or studying why certain teams appear repeatedly in streamed tournament rounds.

Rankings should always be treated as a snapshot. Balance updates, approved errata, mission packs, and changes in terrain standards can shift the competitive landscape quickly. The strongest faction for a particular player is also the one whose movement, tactical ploys, and scoring plan they understand well enough to execute under pressure.

How The Competitive Rankings Work

S-tier teams combine reliable scoring, strong activation quality, flexible threat ranges, and answers to common enemy plans. They tend to perform well in varied pairings rather than relying on one ideal matchup. Their best players can usually switch between aggression, positional control, and late-round objective play.

A-tier teams remain excellent tournament choices, but they may have clearer weaknesses. Some need favorable terrain, specific matchups, or careful resource management. Others are powerful in expert hands but less forgiving when a player falls behind during the first turning point.

B-tier factions are capable of winning events, especially with a practiced roster and a suitable board. They may lack the efficiency or consistency of the highest-ranked teams, but their unusual mechanics can create problems for opponents who have limited experience facing them. C-tier teams generally need more support from mission selection, terrain, or player skill to maintain a strong win rate.

S-Tier Tournament Threats

Angels of Death sit among the most dependable elite teams because every operative contributes meaningful shooting, durability, and tactical flexibility. Their low model count makes mistakes expensive, but their ability to remove key enemy pieces and contest important areas keeps them relevant across many mission types. They reward precise positioning and careful target selection.

Nemesis Claw also belongs in the highest tier. The team combines threatening melee specialists with strong individual profiles and enough tactical flexibility to punish weak deployment decisions. Its operatives can force opponents to respect multiple attack angles, making it difficult to protect every objective while avoiding a decisive charge.

Mandrakes have become one of the most dangerous control-oriented teams. Their mobility, concealment tools, and ability to appear where an opponent least expects them create constant pressure on mission actions. They can turn a small positional error into a lost objective or an isolated operative, particularly on boards with plentiful cover.

Void-Dancer Troupe remains a high-skill but highly capable choice. Harlequin movement, invulnerable defenses, and unusual action options let experienced players manipulate threat ranges and score through spaces other teams cannot safely reach. The roster is less forgiving than a straightforward shooting team, yet its ceiling is exceptional.

A-Tier Factions With Major Upside

Death Korps are one of the most complete generalist teams. Their large roster offers redundancy, access to different specialist roles, and the ability to absorb losses without immediately losing all board influence. They may not overwhelm every opponent with explosive damage, but they consistently create scoring opportunities through numbers and dependable operatives.

Corsair Voidscarred excel at fast mission play. Their mobility allows them to reach distant objectives, angle around cover, and threaten exposed targets. Their performance depends on preserving key specialists and avoiding unnecessary trades, but a skilled Corsair player can make the opposing team react throughout the game.

Legionary offer strong profiles and a clear plan built around elite activation quality. They are particularly effective when the player uses terrain to limit return fire and chooses engagements carefully. Their smaller roster can be vulnerable to early losses, though their operatives remain dangerous for much of the battle.

Hierotek Circle bring powerful ranged weapons, reanimation mechanics, and durable specialists. They can be difficult to shift from important positions and punish opponents who expose themselves too early. Their slower movement and reliance on coordinated activations prevent them from ranking with the most flexible teams, but they remain a serious tournament threat.

Blades of Khaine are another A-tier option with strong melee pressure and several ways to shape engagements. Their success depends on controlling when and where fights happen. They can struggle if forced to cross open ground or trade models inefficiently, but their combat specialists are capable of swinging a turning point quickly.

Tier Factions Competitive Identity
S Angels of Death, Nemesis Claw, Mandrakes, Void-Dancer Troupe High consistency, flexible scoring, and strong answers to common plans
A Death Korps, Corsair Voidscarred, Legionary, Hierotek Circle, Blades of Khaine Powerful tournament teams with identifiable weaknesses
B Kommandos, Hand of the Archon, Phobos Strike Team, Pathfinders, Fellgor Ravagers, Novitiates, Warpcoven Competitive with practice, matchup knowledge, and good terrain
C Hearthkyn Salvagers, Imperial Navy Breachers, Exaction Squad, Kasrkin, Plague Marines, Blooded, Gellerpox Infected Capable rosters that need sharper planning or favorable conditions
Developing Ratlings, Vespid Stingwings, Wrecka Crew, Brood Brothers, Chaos Cult, Tempestus Aquilons, Sanctifiers Potentially dangerous, but less established or more dependent on execution

B-Tier Teams That Reward Practice

Kommandos remain a reliable pressure team. They can contest space aggressively, use durable operatives to occupy objectives, and punish opponents who underestimate their melee threats. Their main challenge is maintaining momentum after the initial clash. If early attacks fail, their limited defensive options can become more noticeable.

Hand of the Archon have a strong mixture of mobility, shooting, and specialized operatives. They can play a flexible game and capitalize on exposed targets, but their efficiency depends on sequencing activations correctly. Players who understand when to preserve a specialist rather than chase damage can make the faction perform above its broad tier.

Phobos Strike Team are excellent at surgical play. Infiltration tools, concealed movement, and precision shooting help them control the opening turns. They are less comfortable in prolonged brawls and cannot afford to lose key operatives without gaining a clear positional advantage.

Pathfinders retain serious ranged threat and strong activation tricks, particularly when their specialists have good lines of fire. Their weakness is resilience: opponents who reach them can often remove models quickly. Dense terrain and disciplined deployment are essential to keeping their shooting plan intact.

Fellgor Ravagers, Novitiates, and Warpcoven occupy the same broad competitive space for different reasons. Fellgor can build momentum through aggressive melee and resilience mechanics, Novitiates bring useful combinations of specialists and faith-based effects, and Warpcoven offer high-impact psychic and melee tools. All three can win against stronger-rated factions when their player manages resources and timing carefully.

C-Tier Rosters And Matchup Specialists

C-tier does not mean unplayable. It describes factions with fewer efficient answers to the current field or a greater dependence on specific conditions. Imperial Navy Breachers, for example, can be frightening in close quarters, where their coordinated shooting and breaching tools matter most. They lose some of that advantage when the board forces long approaches or when opponents deny favorable entry points.

Hearthkyn Salvagers and Exaction Squad can still score through disciplined objective play. Salvagers bring useful firepower and durable bodies, while Exaction Squad can create awkward problems through specialized operatives. Both teams need to avoid being dragged into unfavorable trades and must make every activation contribute to the mission.

Kasrkin and Blooded have access to dangerous damage spikes, but their overall game plan can become inconsistent if early attacks fail. Plague Marines are durable and punishing at close range, yet their limited mobility can make it difficult to keep pace with fast scoring teams. Gellerpox Infected can dominate cramped boards but may struggle when opponents spread out and deny valuable multi-model engagements.

Developing Factions And Meta Watch Picks

The developing group includes teams that are either newer to the competitive scene or more dependent on specific mission and terrain conditions. Vespid Stingwings can create unusual movement puzzles and threaten distant objectives, while Tempestus Aquilons bring rapid deployment tools that may become stronger as players refine their tactical play.

Wrecka Crew and Brood Brothers have interesting board-control potential. Their future standing will depend heavily on how reliably they convert their specialist rules into points rather than simply exchanging models. Chaos Cult can be explosive and difficult to predict, although opponents who understand its transformation and threat patterns can limit its best turns.

Ratlings and Sanctifiers also deserve monitoring. Ratlings can leverage concealment and ranged pressure, while Sanctifiers have tools that reward careful control of firing lanes and objective approaches. These factions may rise as event packets, terrain layouts, and player knowledge evolve.

Choosing A Faction For Your Event

Power rankings should inform a roster choice rather than replace it. A player with dozens of games on a B-tier faction will often outperform someone who selects an S-tier team without understanding its activation order, scoring priorities, or bad matchups. Familiarity creates practical strength that a generic ranking cannot measure.

Consider the type of tournament you are entering. Dense boards can improve melee teams, ambush specialists, and short-range shooters. Open layouts favor accurate ranged attacks and teams that can punish exposed operatives. Events with demanding objective actions place extra value on mobility, action economy, and the ability to keep specialists alive.

The most useful pre-event preparation includes:

  • Practice the first two turning points against at least two different team archetypes.
  • Learn which operatives must survive and which can be traded for immediate objective value.
  • Test equipment and ploy combinations on the event’s expected terrain style.
  • Review streamed matches to study deployment, activation sequencing, and late-round scoring.
  • Track balance updates and tournament results before locking in a final roster.

A strong faction tier list is a starting point for better decisions, not a substitute for games. Watch how high-level players use cover, deny primary objectives, and create safe options before committing to an attack. Kill Team Stream’s live tournaments, recorded matches, commentary, standings, and event resources provide a practical way to connect these rankings with real competitive play.

Follow the latest tournament coverage, study the match footage, and use the results to sharpen your own faction plan before the next event.
